Jeff the Killer is a particularly infamous Creepypasta.

The story was formed sort of spontaneously by a user named "Sesseur" on the old Encyclopaedia Dramatica back in 2008, based on speculation about the origin about a particularly unsettling picture on the Creepypasta article called "joy.jpg◊". A video on YouTube soon surfaced with a 2005 edit of this picture to be deranged and scary in October of 2008.

This is a combination of original research and memories of former ED editors, whose words must be taken at face value because in 2011 most of the relevant image discussion pages and user profiles for ED were deleted in their entirety when the lead admin attempted to erase the site off the internet; though ED was resurrected, the discussion pages with any information relevant to the case were not recovered. However, like everything else on the Internet, one person's guess is as good as anyone else's.

It eventually become almost synonymous with Creepypasta itself, mostly known thanks to the ridiculous amount of spinoffs, as well as its infamously Narmy and unrealistic origin story, both of which have turned something originally totally off-the-rails frightening into something...well, not so much. Over the years, the other well-written Creepypastas have resulted in this Jeff the Killer becoming increasingly derided and disliked, so much so that it got removed off the Creepypasta Wiki and placed on its sister site, the Trollpasta Wiki, dedicated to non-serious and poorly written Creepypastas (referred to at one point on the Wiki as crappypastas). A remake was posted in 2015 but was also criticized for the fact that, while it managed to fix the broken grammar and plot holes, it still wasn't that great overall.

The origin of the image associated with the Creepypasta may be more interesting than the story itself. For years, multiple rumors flew around the image, including that it was an edited photo of an overweight girl who was bullied on 4Chan and killed herself, or that it was an edited photo of an early camgirl. In 2015, Sesseur claimed in an interview that he made the image himself with a latex mask and some makeup. But shortly after, copies of the image and its alt were found on the Japanese internet dating back to years before Sesseur's first post, as far back as 2005. According to sources on the Japanese internet, including some of the earliest uploaders of the image, the original image was part of a video of a middle-aged woman getting close to the camera, causing her face to appear white, although this image or video has never been found and may well be lost to time, assuming these rumors are even true. YouTuber blameitonjorge has documented the search for this image.
Tropes associated with Jeff the Killer:

Acrofatic: The Fat Bastard Troy can somehow jump over a fence on a skateboard.
Action Prologue: The opening of the story starts with a child retelling his account of nearly being stabbed by Jeff.
Adults Are Useless: None of the parents step in to break up the fight between Jeff, and the bullies. While they do have guns, and use them, you'd think that someone would try to disarm them while they're distracted, but nope. Nobody does anything till most of them are dead, and Jeff is on fire.
Aerith and Bob/Odd Name Out: Most of the names are all standard, normal American names, and then there's Jeff's brother Liu.
Ambiguously Human:
In the original story, Jeff is — despite being fully human — somehow capable of all sorts of inhuman actions, like killing Randy with one punch, and survives being burned alive AND horrific self-mutilation.
In one interpretation, a story simply entitled "Jeff", he looks completely normal, with no real deformities except for eyes that turn red the angrier he gets.
Artistic License – Biology:
Despite only being a child, Jeff is ridiculously strong, being able to break bones like twigs, and tear a towel rack off a wall effortlessly — cement, tiles, grout and metal joints be damned!
Jeff somehow has perfect vision despite burning his eyelids off. Without eyelids in real life, a person would very quickly turn blind because of infections, their eyes drying out, or simply getting damaged by dust or foreign objects, with the only way of preventing this being to constantly hydrate the exposed eyes, a costly and tedious affair.
Also, Jeff seems completely fine with having a Glasgow Grin, something which usually results in fatal bleeding. In addition, receiving a Glasgow smile and surviving makes it usually very difficult to speak, or eat, or drink, or... well, anything that requires precise movement of the jaws.
Jeff claims cutting his eyelids off would allow him to never sleep again. In reality, people can sleep with their eyes open in a condition called nocturnal lagophthalmos. In addition, it is impossible to completely stop sleeping without dying (see fatal familial insomnia); the longest time someone has spent without sleeping without any stimulants is 11 days, and long before that point, the brain will force any but the most resilient (or the most drugged up) individuals to fall asleep.
The fact that apparently bleach makes skin turn pure white. In reality, bleach can irritate the skin depending on its concentration, making it turn red and inflamed. First and second-degree burns also make the skin red and inflamed, so even these in combination wouldn't have had the claimed effect.
The fact that the fire dyed his hair black instead of burning it all off or turning it grey and crusty.
Also, the doctor, no less, claims that Jeff's insane laughter is a result of the Anesthetics they use. While this is a possible symptom of coming out of anesthesia, anesthetized patients are far more likely to babble and speak either coherent or incoherent nonsense. Watch some videos of dental patients waking up and talking for the first time after surgery for proof.
Jeff punching Randy in the heart which results in the latter dying is made trivially easy in the story, whereas in real life it takes exactly the right conditions to cause this to happen. Normally it takes several powerful hits to the chest to cause death, or very rarely an extraordinarily traumatic impact at just the wrong moment during the heart's compression cycle which causes fatal arrhythmia.note Though, given the over-the-top nature of the fic, the implication might be that Jeff just hit Randy so hard it shattered his ribs, which could have pierced his heart and killed him.
Artistic License – Chemistry:
Not only is bleach not flammable, but bleach is a base chemical. While it does cause clothes to become washed out by reacting with the dyes in the fabric, if bleach was left on a person's hand long-term it would cause the skin to become irritated, similar to how an acid dissolves the skin, so if Jeff weren't turned black from being burned alive he would be a lighter-than-normal pink due to the majority of his epidermis sloughing off. The only correct thing about him being drenched in bleach is his skin feeling "tight," a result of said effect of it being a base.
The versions which involve Jeff being doused in vodka as well as bleach fix one problem but cause another: alcohol is fairly volatile, so it's likely that some of it would have evaporated before Jeff was set on fire. The bleach would have also diluted it a fair bit, so it wouldn't have burnt as spectacularly as described, if it even caught fire at all.
Household bleach is fairly diluted, so it doesn't really affect human skin unless it's left on there for a long time, and its damage tends to be fairly limited as long as it doesn't get inside the body through the mouth or nose or into the eyes. Presumably washing off the bleach before it did any damage was one of the first things they'd have done at the hospital, so there's really no reason why it should have affected Jeff's face at all.
Artistic License – Law: Liu is immediately sent to juvenile hall for one year without a trial or any further investigation.
Artistic License – Medicine: After Jeff wakes up in the hospital, the doctor recommends his parents get him a psychiatric evaluation if anything goes wrong. Most doctors would give somebody who went through an experience as traumatic as Jeff's an evaluation as a matter of course.
Asshole Victim:

Jeff and Liu's parents certainly aren't exactly great (given the mother's immediate response to Jeff's Sanity Slippage, which has prompted him to mutilate himself with a knife, is telling her husband to "get the gun").

Big Brother Instinct: Jeff makes it clear that he cares about Liu.
Black Eyes of Evil: No explanation is given for why they're black, but they're there. Note that sometimes fanart forgoes the black part, and often stylizes them as red.
Book Ends: The news article that opens the story has an already crazy Jeff say "go to sleep" to a young boy before trying to kill him while the story itself ends with a crazed Jeff saying the exact same thing to his younger brother Liu, gripping him as he gets ready to plunge the knife.
Buffy Speak:
Unbelievably the prose uses this; during Jeff's final confrontation with the bullies, Keith apparently knocks down a "thing" of bleach, rather than a bottle or even a jar.
One version claiming to be the original that was submitted to the Creepypasta Wiki consistently used the word "knifed" instead of "stabbed."
Bullying a Dragon: Again, the three kids from Jeff's origin story.

Fighting Back Is Wrong:
Jane The Killer, an alternate telling of the Jeff the Killer story from the point of view of a girl named Jane, features the titular character watching the confrontation between Jeff and Randy at the bus stop. Her reaction to Jeff beating up the school bully is to consider him a monstrous person hiding an inner evil. Bad Creepypasta pointed out how horrible this thinking is, pointing out that Jeff did nothing but defend himself and defeat the kid that everyone else, including Jane herself, is afraid of.
The original story also uses this trope, as the police show up at their door that afternoon to arrest Jeff for "attacking" Randy.
Glasgow Grin: Jeff carves a smile into his face so he can "smile forever". How he does not bleed to death from this is anyone's guess.
Hate Sink: Randy, Keith and Troy, who were a group of bullies, were made to be hated given the fact they bully Jeff for fun and show no remorse for doing so.
Hollywood Healing:
Four days after having one of his wrists broken by Jeff, Randy is able to use his wrists just fine. Despite this, he still has a bruise on his nose from where Jeff punched him, which you think would have healed first. This is more likely a Plot Hole than anything else.
Despite Jeff being stabbed, and having the shit beaten out of him, his burns are the only things mentioned afterwards.
How We Got Here: The story opens with a news report detailing one of Jeff's attempted killings, and states that he has been killing people for quite some time. The rest of the story details Jeff's Start of Darkness.
Judge, Jury, and Executioner: The cops in this universe apparently operate like this, since they seemingly have the authority to sentence people on the spot with even the flimsiest of evidence.
Karma Houdini: Jeff himself is this. the original has him kill his whole family and go on to become a serial killer, with no qualms against murdering children. The story offers no indication that he will be brought to justice anytime soon.
Kids Are Cruel: Randy, Keith, and Troy are all implied to be only twelve years old.
Kill It with Fire: Presumably what Keith tried to do with Jeff, though it didn't actually work.
Knight Templar Big Brother: Jeff's first kills were a group of bullies who stole Liu's wallet and threatened both of them with a knife.
Laughing Mad: Jeff lets one out when he sees his deformed face in the mirror.
Lean and Mean: Keith, one of the bullies from the story, was implied to be very skinny.
Made of Iron: In total, Jeff withstands being stabbed, being kicked in the face repeatedly, getting punched repeatedly, getting thrown through a glass door, having a glass bottle broken over his head, being set on fire, falling down a flight of stairs, burning off his own eyelids, and giving himself a Glasgow Smile. It's shocking that he can even walk, let alone become a serial killer.
Man on Fire: Jeff after Keith sets him ablaze.
MST: BAD CREEPYPASTA has done an MST'd reading of the story in a very lemony, snarky way. The Internet Historian and some other Youtubers got in on the fun as well.
Murder Is the Best Solution: After Jeff disfigures himself, his mother starts thinking about killing him almost immediately.
My Nayme Is: Assuming that Liu isn't supposed to be adopted, or the use of a foreign name, and is just a really weird spelling of "Lou", or "Louie".
Nightmare Face: The image that started it all is very hard to get out of your head, and can be quite a shocker. The picture it was based on (hit the link in the opening paragraph for a comparison) is not at all better.
Nothing Is Scarier: Averted, and is one of the main reasons the story isn't considered scary at all. We know everything about who Jeff is and why he is the way he is.
One-Hit Kill: Jeff does this to Randy, [This example contains a YMMV entry. It should be moved to the YMMV tab.] somehow.
Police Are Useless: "We found three kids, two stabbed." Keith was the only one who got stabbed, so the police have got bad information.
Practically Joker: Jeff is pretty much just some green hair dye away from being a perfect carbon copy of the Clown Prince of Crime himself. He has a name starting with the letter "J", a chemically bleached face set into a permanent hideous smile, a tendency to kill people, an uncontrollable habit of bursting into insane laughter and a backstory that saw him go mad after having "one bad day ".
Sanity Slippage: The origin story is about how Jeff became a psychotic killer.
Self-Made Orphan: The night Jeff returns from the hospital, he kills both his parents.
Sequel: There's a slightly less-popular sequel called Jeff Is Back, which manages to have better writing but is still relatively the same...
Stupid Evil:
Despite lying to the police to get Liu arrested, Randy, Troy, and Keith have no problems attacking Jeff and trying to kill him at a birthday party with tons of witnesses. Even if Randy had won, he would have been arrested for murder. Randy even admits that he lied right in front of everyone. The three don't even have the sense to wear masks to hide their identities.
Jeff can be considered this too, since he inflicted injuries upon himself that would severely cripple him, and eventually outright kill him.
Taking You with Me: Keith presumably tries to do this with Jeff by tossing his lighter at the latter, who has been coated in vodka and bleach. Considering he vanishes from the story after this point, it’s unclear if he even dies from doing this or not.
Teens Are Monsters: The trio of bullies certainly qualify, being downright cartoonish in the original and willing to murder Jeff themselves. And of course, Jeff himself in the end.
Terrible Trio: Randy, Troy, and Keith, the three bullies that mugged and assaulted Jeff and his brother.
Tom the Dark Lord: "Jeff" isn't exactly the most frightening of names.
Tragic Villain: An attempt to make Jeff sympathetic is made. It doesn't work very well.
Ungrateful Bastard: After killing his parents, Jeff, for some reason, decides to kill his brother, even though his brother took the blame for attacking Randy and company.
The Unpronounceable: A very mild case revolving around Jeff's brother Liu's name. While the name itself isn't hard to say in theory, just exactly how you're supposed to say it is where the confusion starts. People are divided between whether or not it's supposed to be said "Lee-oo" or just "Lou". A very small fraction of people think it's supposed to be pronounced like "Louie", and at least one person as evident by the WMG page has theorized that "Liu" is actually just short for his real name which is an older version of the name "Leopold" which is "Liupold." Needless to say, the author never clarified, and the name is just one of the many infamous in the story.
What Happened to the Mouse?: Despite being one of the three main antagonists, what happens to Troy is unclear. Unlike the other two bullies who explicitly die, he is never mentioned again after getting hit in the face with a towel rack, and falling to the floor.
Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: The original tries to make Jeff out to be one of these. It doesn't work that well.
Would Hurt a Child: The story opens with a report detailing Jeff's attempted murder of a child.

Origin

Jeff was a 13-year-old who moved to a new neighborhood with his brother, Liu, and their parents. On their first day of school, they were accosted by 3 bullies named Randy, Keith, & Troy, whom Jeff brutally beat up after they threatened them with knives. Liu took the blame for it and was arrested, sending Jeff into a deep depression. The bullies later attacked Jeff again at a party, and Jeff killed one of them, but not before getting covered in bleach and lit on fire by Keith. During this fight, Jeff's mind permanently snapped.

When Jeff woke up, he was at the hospital and his head was wrapped in bandages. When the bandages were taken off, it was revealed that his face had become disfigured and ghastly pale from the burns, with bright red lips and a leathery texture. Jeff said that he liked his face this way and laughed hysterically, but the doctor foolishly thought that this insanity was merely a side effect of the painkillers and let Jeff go home.

Later that night, Jeff's mother found him carving his face into a permanent smile so that he would no longer have to exert energy to smile, as he put it, and burning off his eyelids so he could always see his face. Jeff's mother went to her husband to tell him that their son had gone completely mad and needed to be killed, but Jeff caught them and stabbed them to death. This woke up Liu (who was recently released), with Jeff telling him as he was about to plunge the knife into his body, "Go to sleep".

Jeff then went on a serial killing rampage, killing those who refused to sleep at night, and as the story continued, Jeff renamed himself "Jeff the Killer".
Derivative Works
Jane the Killer

Due to Jeff's popularity, many fans made different expansions to the Creepypasta, the most well known expansion being a character named Jane the Killer, featured in a story titled Jane's Letter created by DeviantART user FearOfTheBlackWolf. A short story about a woman who views Jeff as her nemesis and kills those before he can, telling them "Don't Go To Sleep, You'll Never Wake Up.". Although this Creepypasta story was short, she became well-liked among the Creepypasta fan-base and many created fan arts of her, and a full audiobook style written Creepypasta was created with the two rivals encountering.

Eventually a detailed backstory was written explaining the details of Jane's background and motivation for wanting Jeff killed. In this story, Jeff, when older, murdered the parents of Jane Richardson, causing Jane to become an immediate enemy of Jeff. Jane had sworn to hunt Jeff and murder him for doing the same to her parents.

Jeff the Killer Vs. Jane the Killer

In another fan-adaption, "Jane The Killer: The Real Story," Jeff murdered Jane Arkensaw's entire family, friends, and as well as his own family. He lit her on fire by using bleach and gasoline, leaving her scarred and disfigured. Thus, the beginning of their rivalry. However, this particular version of Jane the Killer plagiarizes the character (such as changing her surname from "Richardson" to "Arkensaw"), and the fan-base took it as canon, which displeased the creator of the character.

Despite numerous stories, videos, and artwork, neither Jane Richardson or Jane Arkensaw has a canonical connection to the Jeff the Killer, and are merely derivative works of the Creepypasta.
Slender Man

There are many different ways in which fan content portrays Jeff The Killer and Slenderman in relation to each other. Most fan-works depict Slender Man as mortal enemies on-par with Jeff, showing off one another's skills. Depictions of Jeff typically show him going into combat with Slender Man using his knives, while Slender Man is typically shown using his tentacles.

Jeff the Killer Vs. Slender Man

There are even some various fan-works that depict Jeff the Killer as one of Slenderman's proxies, often painting Jeff's image as some kind of super-proxy that was discovered by Slender Man shortly after murdering his family and escaping to the forest. However, many fans do not exactly approve of this particular fan-work, because they tend to argue and state that Jeff would be 'too insane' to be controlled by Slender Man.

While all of these concepts are non-canon to both Jeff the Killer and to the Slender Man mythos, it is nevertheless an immensely popular combination of the two in numerous fan-artworks.
Homicidal Liu

Another popular expansion is "Homicidal Liu" created by DeviantART user VampireNote13, a story about Jeff's brother Liu surviving his encounter with Jeff in the Creepypasta and developing a split-personality, becoming a serial killer himself and contemplating whether to get revenge on Jeff or spare him. The expansion also claims that Liu is the older brother, even though it was never stated in the actual Creepypasta itself which sibling was the oldest. This expansion was also the origination of the last name "Woods" as Liu is named "Liu Woods" in the expansion. Even though the creator made the story as a "what-if" scenario for a role-playing group, and even acknowledged that Liu dying may have been canonical, a majority of the fanbase took her expansion as canon.
Sesseur's Version

On October 3rd, 2008, a YouTuber named "Sesseur" uploaded a video called "Jeff the Killer [Original Story]". This video came out before the famous Creepypasta was even written. In the original video, the song 'I Guess You're Right', by The Posies, can be heard playing in the background. Sesseur claims he is the one who created Jeff the Killer and that every internet story about Jeff the Killer is fake, including the famous Creepypasta story. He claims Jeff never had an incident with bullies or bleach. Instead, he claims that Jeff was hauling a gallon of acid into his bathroom to clean out his bathtub but slipped on a bar of soap and the acid splashed all over his face and he was taken to a hospital when the neighbors heard his cries. And apparently, in Sessuer's original version of Jeff the Killer, Jeff never murdered Liu or his parents and his full canon name is Jeffrey C. Hodek, not "Jeffrey Alan Woods".

(NOTE: killerjeff's YouTube channel has been terminated due to his violations of YouTube's community guidelines, which took the video down with it. When questioned, his response was that his account was taken down due to the disbelief of him being the original creator of the Jeff the Killer character. Fortunately the video was re-uploaded by a YouTube user called PhenomenonPoltergeist, however, the original audio was not kept, which was the song I Guess You're Right by the Posies playing in the background for a majority of the video. Later on, YouTube user Bob's Brother would come in to re-upload the video with its original audio.).
Jeff the Killer - 2015 Remake

Because the 2011 Creepypasta story was criticized by many for its poor quality and it was even protested that it should not have been allowed on the Creepypasta wiki for not meeting the actual required standards. Because of this, it was taken down from the Creepypasta wiki a year later. However, users constantly re-uploaded it, objecting to the idea of it being taken down due to it being one of the most popular Creepypastas at the time. In late 2014, the community finally decided that the story was banned from the Creepypasta wiki entirely and officially be moved to the Spinpasta Wiki, however, the story was taken down there as well. The story can be found on the official Creepypasta Website, Trollpasta Wiki (now a closed Wiki), and Just The Kittens Wiki (originally "Jeff The Killer Wiki", a Wiki dedicated to all Jeff the Killer fandom stories, but later renamed for unknown reasons).

As a result of the Creepypasta being taken down from the Creepypasta wiki, a competition was made to remake the story entirely and create something more realistic and frightening that could be featured on the wiki. Admin K. Banning Kellum's story won first place, however, it had to be cut down to half its size due to the contest's word limit, the uncut version can be viewed on the Spinpasta Wiki.

The remake stays true to the original Creepypasta with the same characters, with Jeff and his family moving into a new neighborhood as well as a fight with between Jeff and a trio of bullies. However, the result of Jeff's deformed face is different from the one in the original Creepypasta. Unlike the original Creepypasta, Jeff and Liu's ages are stated, with Jeff being 15 years old and Liu being 14 years old. However, this is only revealed in the uncut version of the remake.

K. Banning Kellum became proud of his remake, and soon after Wiki user Kevin Tierney made a Jane the Killer adaption to the remake, he decided to continue the Creepypasta by making a sequel.
The Controversial Image

Not many people know the true origin of the original Jeff the Killer image. Many people believe it was a photoshopped picture of a woman named "Katy Robinson", who allegedly committed suicide due to excessive cyberbullying after visiting 4Chan's /b/ board around the year 2008, and it was believed for several years that the picture of the girl was apparently the now famous Jeff the Killer image. However, this claim is entirely false and has been debunked numerous times, as there are no records of it actually happening. Around 2015, during an interview with YouTube user ScareTheater, the original creator of Jeff the Killer, Sesseur, claims that the Katy Robinson suicide is a - "bogus story", and confirms that the image is actually a picture of himself wearing a white latex mask. However, what was even more strange is that this is also false, even though he did write the original story.

The Jeff image has been seen in places which date to 2005. It has been seen in a Japanese video published on YouTube on 2 August 2007 entitled "NNN臨時放送", which is apparently for a horror film project entitled Victims of Tomorrow or something to that effect, wherein a series of names and ages are listed. After Jeff's face appears for a split second, there is text that says "good night", which might be a precursor to "go to sleep".

The earliest confirmed sighting of the image was on 16 November 2005, on a Japanese message board named pya.cc along with another image that Sesseur also posted, where he claimed that the alternate version was his original design concept. Sesseur's earliest known internet presence was 14 August 2008 where he made a Newgrounds account called "killerjeff" where he acted as if he were Jeff. The original Jeff the Killer video was uploaded on 3 November 2008.

The origins of the image and the subject it portrays are still unknown, as well as how it connects to Japan's internet culture. The most likely story is one that is unverifiable. In this version of the story posited by a few /b/ users, the photograph is of a woman whose identity is currently unknown (although it is speculated that her name is Victoria). She streamed on the now defunct website Stickam in 2005 and used /b/ as a means of promoting herself after the SomethingAwful forums started to become obsolete. One user took a screenshot of her face and posted it, acting as if they were her, with the caption: "Am I pretty?" In a successive series of images photoshopped by different users, one said in response: "now you are." After finding out about this series of events, the woman stopped streaming and vanished.

Three images of Jeff are nowadays generally accepted as being from the thread if it did occur: the famous one, the "alternate version" as Sesseur claimed it was, and a much more realistic although lower-resolution version building off the most famous version.

Appearance

Jeff has extremely pale skin and burnt off eyelids, giving him an even more ghostly appearance. Jeff later got his most distinctive trait, the Glasgow smile that he had carved into his face. His build is commonly described as thin, but with some lean muscle tone at the same time, and reaching a height of around 5'10" to 6'0". In various fan depictions, he's typically portrayed in his late teens or early twenties. His clothing normally consists of a pair of black dress pants with a white hoodie, like described in the story, which is sometimes stained with fresh and old blood from his victims.
Personality

Before being burnt alive, he was a quiet and fairly antisocial teenager, not that people actually knew him very well. But shortly after the incident, he became torturous, aggressive, bloodthirsty, and violent, making him one of the most dangerous serial killers in his hometown. Jeff is widely known for luring his victims to an eternal slumber, using a kitchen knife and eerie but soft tone of voice. Even though he prefers to murder his victims with knives, he is more than willing to use any weapon when placed in a desperate situation. He is an extremely stealthy and mischievous individual, able to break into victims' houses almost always without getting himself caught in the act.
Powers and Abilities

Despite being an average human, Jeff appears to wield incredible supernatural abilities that only apply to his human attributes, such as incredible stealth, speed, and supernatural strength used to mercilessly slaughter his victims. Jeff is shown to be incredibly durable, being able to overcome his parents and brother simply by gutting them. One thing that makes him stronger is his intense hatred and bloodlust to keep him going, as well as having great stamina. In recent years, Jeff has been depicted as being a charming individual, manipulating people into trusting him, only to betray them later.

Because Jeff the Killer is a copyrighted character belonging to Sessuer, who used Jeff in only one singular story, any products that are released without the permission of Sessuer are non-canon.

Jeffrey C. Hodek, more commonly known as Jeff the Killer is the titular main protagonist villain of the Creepypasta story of the same name. Originally, just your average run-of-the-mill kind of guy, Jeff's life turned upside down after becoming severely disfigured, which emotionally scarred him. His life and personality drastically changed, and Jeff went on to commit a decade of brutal murders.

A second, more widely known version of this character is Jeffrey Alan Woods. He was once a protective 13 year-old boy who cared deeply for his family, after a tragic accident and going insane he became a murderous, dangerous, and merciless serial killer.

History
Original Version

In 2007 a young man and his brother move from their parent's home and make a life for themselves, Jeff and his brother Liu had a great life on their own, they both were popular and well-liked, Jeff normally was lazy and Liu was the brains and breadwinner of the home, scoring a good job as a computer tech engineer, making fantastic income for the both of them, even telling his brother Jeff to not bother work and just kick back, relax and enjoy himself, Liu was happy to do what he does, and he was happier to know his brother had no work to slave over, their life seemed fantastic. Until a few months later in November, late afternoon Jeff suffered a horrible accident while his brother was at his job, unable to help.

People heard the commotion and saved Jeff, Liu rushed straight to the hospital when their neighbor called him. Jeff nearly died and Liu was devastated, however, Jeff pulled through, but in critical condition, it took a nearly full year to get rehab before going back home, Liu stayed with Jeff more than he did back home, even quitting his job temporarily just to monitor his brother, their parents heard the sad news and also devastated them, their mother was unable to speak to Jeff due to how horribly scarred he was, she couldn't stand to see her son wounded, their father took it more lightly and told Jeff that this isn't too bad, he'll get better and it all will go back to normal and this would be something to look forward to, causing the two brothers to be optimistic, unfortunately, their father was dead wrong, for the next time Jeff would arrive home he would start a decade of murder, soon he was prepped for reconstructive surgery to restore his face as good as can be then to be released a week later.

Unfortunately, the surgeons were inexperienced and negligent, causing Jeff's restored face to be a very haunting visage of what he is known for, Jeff wouldn't even know his face nor even anyone else until a week later when he was taken back home with Liu, slowly revealed his horrid face starting back in the bathroom mirror, having a relapse and slicing a smile in his cheeks as Liu looked on in horror. The hospital would be sued for Malpractice eventually after Liu and Jeff forged a death certificate for the latter to cover up any connection of the murders Jeff committed. Jeff would be that of a legend in Jersey, causing panic years to come, baffling reporters and police on this mysterious slayer, until revealed years later proving that the Myth "Jeff the Killer" was indeed real, and soon to be connected to the Jeff Hodek that supposedly died, bringing down the heat to the two, even family and anyone who knows anything about him causing the brothers to act in desperation. Once Liu was identified and implicated as an accomplice and a murderer, the Hodek brothers were forced to flee and eventually relocate.
2011 Version

Jeff started out as a normal suburban teenager, living with his mother, Margaret, his father, Peter, and his brother, Liu.

At some point in Jeff's life when he reached the age of 13, he and his family moved into a new neighborhood after his father got a promotion. Jeff and his brother were happy about the idea. Not long after settling into the neighborhood, Jeff obtained an odd feeling in his mind, but did not think too much of it.

One day later, Jeff and Liu went to a bus stop void of people. While waiting for the school bus, three kids, Randy, Troy, and Keith, approached the brothers and mugged them at knife point, taking Liu's wallet in the process. That’s when Jeff got the feeling in his head again and got into a fight with the three bullies, incapacitating all three of them, shocking Liu. Jeff and Liu left the scene after the school bus neared in and went to school, believing they were in the clear.

The next morning however, police arrived at Jeff's house and both Jeff and Liu were accused of attacking the trio with no apparent motivation, even after Jeff tried to tell the police that they were being mugged, the police didn't believe him. Jeff rightly took the blame for the whole thing and was about to be taken away by the police to a Correctional Facility for a whole year, but Liu stepped in with, knife in hand, and took the blame for the whole incident, showing cuts and bruises on his arm to prove it. Liu was then taken away in Jeff's place, leaving Jeff into a depression.

After two days, Jeff became more and more debilitated with guilt and loneliness. However, on a Saturday morning, Jeff's mother insisted that he should go to a neighbor’s birthday party, believing it would make him happy. Jeff reluctantly went to the party, which shortly took his mind off of Liu and made him feel slightly better. However, things took a turn for the worse when Randy, Troy, and Keith tracked Jeff to the party and confronted him with anger in their eyes, showing that they were wanting an obvious fight. Jeff tried to reason with Randy, believing that the odds were even between the two as he got to beat them before they got his brother sent to the Juvenile Detention Center. Randy dismissed this and said, "I don’t go for even, I go for winning."

Randy then proceeded to brutally attack Jeff whilst Troy and Keith held the parents and children at gunpoint to prevent them from stopping the fight. During the fight, Randy smashed a bottle of vodka over Jeff's head, drenching him in alcohol. After Randy incapacitated Jeff, he constantly yelled at Jeff to fight back. After Jeff struggled to stand, Randy finally insulted Jeff, telling him that Liu would rot in prison and that he should be ashamed of himself for not doing anything about it.

This infuriated Jeff to stand up and knock Randy to the ground. He struck a vicious punch into Randy's chest, which caused arrhythmia to Randy’s heart, resulting in his death. Troy and Keith, enraged by Randy's death, began shooting at Jeff with their guns, but they failed to hit him. After the two ran out of ammunition, Jeff lured them into the bathroom where he mortally wounded them.

During the struggle with Keith, a tub of bleach drenched Jeff, and Keith took this opportunity to set Jeff on fire by throwing his lighter at him. With the combination of the alcohol and bleach drenched on Jeff, it set him ablaze, making it practically impossible for him to put out the flames himself, Jeff then fell down the stairs of the house and passed out as the flames engulfed him.

Jeff woke up in a hospital room with bandages covering his face and body and was informed by his mother that Liu was being released from jail after witnesses overheard Randy mention that he was responsible for getting him in prison. Several weeks later, Jeff's bandages were removed, revealing his face to be deformed. Jeff took a liking to his new face, and when his family noticed his behavior, the doctors mistakenly assured them that it was a result of the painkillers.

After being taken home that day, Jeff's mother woke up to find Jeff in the bathroom burning out his own eyelids and carving a Glasgow smile into his cheeks. She realized that Jeff had gone insane and knew he needed to be killed. When informing Jeff's father, Jeff overheard this and proceeded to butcher his parents. Liu woke up from the noise and tried to avoid it by trying to go back to sleep, however Jeff crept into the room and told Liu, "Go to sleep," before plunging the knife into his chest. Liu's fate was left uncertain.

Jeff then went on a serial killing rampage, killing those who refuse to sleep at night, Jeff became infamously known as the "Ominous Unknown Killer."

Jeff is also depicted as having quite a narcissistic personality accompanied with a fine dose of egoism and intense arrogance, bragging about his skills and taunting other Creepypasta characters.

Despite his title, Jeff’s intention isn’t to simply kill others. His intention is to inflict pain on them. This is because his bloodlust first emerged during his first encounter with Randy, Tory, and Keith as sadism. If it wasn’t for this, he wouldn’t have gained the potential to kill all three of them at the birthday party.
Powers and Abilities

Despite being a human, Jeff appears to wield incredibly powerful abilities that only apply to his human attributes, such as incredible stealth, inhuman speed, and brute strength, which he uses to mercilessly slaughter his victims, being able to overcome his parents and brother by simply gutting them.

Upon dermal exposure to bleach and alcohol, Jeff’s nervous system was slowed down through a reduce in the neural electrical signals in his nervous system, which increased his pain tolerance. A few things that makes him stronger are his intense hatred and bloodlust to keep him going, as well as holding great stamina. In recent years, Jeff has been depicted as being a charming individual, manipulating people into trusting him only to backstab them later.

Unlike other serial killers, Jeff’s homicidal urges are unusually insatiable, driving him to go extreme lengths just to inflict pain on others. This has caused him to become notorious, allowing him to utilize it as a means to evoke fear in others. His desire to kill is so pure that it allows him to easily break the wills of others. He has also shown to use his killing intention to intimidate others into seeing terrifying visualizations to the point where their minds are forced to believe that they are real, discourage them into submitting/fleeing, and even paralyze them in fear. One example is his menacing presence evoking enough fear to cause a victim to hallucinate about the dead body of a young girl whom they had found in their closet, yet the police could not find information about to even know who she was. Jeff also has a natural intuition on how to kill others, allowing him to sense the weaknesses of others and use them to inflict pain on them, if not kill them.
Danger Level

Jeff truly lives up to his name. He's a feral maniac, looking to trouble, chaos, and murder wherever he goes and bringing as many people down 6-feet under as he can while avoiding authorities at all times.

His intentions go much deeper than simply killing his victims. His bloodlust first emerged in his mind as unrestrained pleasure from harming others. If it wasn’t for this sadistic nature, Jeff would’ve never resorted to killing in the first place. Because of this, he will sometimes take his time with his victims, brutally torturing them in disturbingly cruel ways while they are still alive.

This sadistic nature has led him to have a knack for exploiting others’ weaknesses, whether they be humans or supernatural beings, allowing him to easily figure out how to at least inflict pain on most living beings. It's also possible that Jeff's psychopathy may catch up to him and begin to overwhelm him in time, eventually driving him into killing himself, thus scoring him an 8 on the danger level.
